A slow start helped prevent the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team from earning its third straight win in a 61-52 loss Thursday at Highland.

The Chargers (2-4) were held to five first-quarter points in trailing 15-5. The teams played to a near-stalemate the rest of the way, with Sandburg outscoring the Cougars 47-46 over the final three periods.

Addison Eger (Mendon, Ill./Unity) scored six in each half to lead Sandburg with 12 points. Carley Reeves-Eakins (Branson, Ill./Reeds Spring) added 11 for the Chargers.

Highland’s Abby Barr led all players with 19 points. Emily Mandamin had 11 points for the Cougars.
